Johnson's Mt Laurel Auto Svc
OMG RUN... DONT WALK.. RUN
“It's always hard to know if you someone is just bad at what they do or if they 'saw you coming' & decided to take advantage of a situation. Bought an older used truck & needed a receiver & electric brake put in. Called every place that installs hitches/electric brakes and got basically the same estimate from everyone. Went to Johnson's because they were the closest, they talk a good story & I needed it done, quickly. The owner is not really the 'work-a-holic' type and it shows. The attitudes were just a bit 'off' and I felt more like an imposition then a paying customer. And of course the bill was over $100 higher then the estimate but again, I needed it done. Took the truck, took two ponies up to States the next day. Had a few irregularities with the truck, but didn't think much of it. Brought the truck back to my mechanic, who always stands by his work, and in all honesty my mechanic (who I am very grateful for) probably fixed for free some of what this idiot caused. \n\nWhile this truck was new to me, I had recently traded the exact same maker/model/year that I had driven for over 200,000 miles to buy it. I do feel like I have some familiarity with my vehicle. On the drive home from Johnson's RV I had some unusual electical issues. Didn't think much of it, again I had just bought the truck.\n\nTook the ponies up to States, had some unusual electrical issues, had some issues with my gauge, lost lights, etc... but the truck was new to me & didn't think anything of it. Took it back to my mechanic (who I bought the truck from) and he worked on it all weekend & had it back to me in time to pick up the ponies, in what appeared to be better working order. Drove the ponies & the two kids that owned the ponies home from States, parked by truck & trailer, unloaded everyone. Night fell, the rest of the barn came home, a friend went to put away the truck & trailer & my trailer brakes locked up. We could not get that trailer to move. Gave up, unplugged the electric brake Johnson's installed (at $100 over estimate) and put the trailer away.\n\nEventually we figured it out, turning on the headlights of my truck causes the trailer brakes to lock up. Happens only with my truck (test five other trucks) so we unplugged Johnson's brake controller and I have been hauling okay ever since. Tuck was still having funky issues but I never thought much of it, its an older truck.\n\nIt concerned me that I could have been killed driving those kids with their ponies home from States. And that it was shear luck that I left States early and didn't need to turn on my headlights (which would have jackknifed the truck/trailer) most likely killing everybody on board. And while I should have gone back to Johnson's, I was so upset, so happy that ponies, kids & myself were alive and so repulsed by my previous treatment and the extra $100 they charged me, I never went back. They really made me feel like I was such an imposition, I've never paid anyone money before that made me feel that bad about wanting them to do the work.\n\nA year took the truck in to a nice reputable place, they do trucks, trailers, 4x4's etc. Had to replace the controller Johnson's RV installed (for $100 over estimate) and removed every thing they did. And... I was charged $170... exactly what Johnson's originally estimated. Turns out controller was bad, wiring was bad and every thing Johnson's did was bad. Pull it out, replaced everything... And all of a sudden my truck's electrical system lost its 'gremlin', my headlights, rear lights, dash lights, gauges, fuses, they all work now! It like magic!\n\nBut again, you never really know if someone is just bad at what they do or they 'see you coming' and decide to take advantage of a situtation. \n” -
